Land Use Planning in Cherwell
Cherwell District Council is the Planning Authority for North Oxfordshire. For administrative purposes, the District is split into a North and South Area – business use applications in and around Banbury are dealt with by the North Area team, while applications relating to Bicester and Kidlington are dealt with by the South Area Team. A Major Projects team is also in place and deals solely with large site developments and regeneration schemes.
Planning can be a difficult process for businesses. Some guidance is available from the Economic Development team at Cherwell District Council, and detailed advice may also be available from Planning Officers. Excellent general guidance for businesses unfamiliar with the Planning System is available from the Department of Communities and Local Government website, see below.
Long-term spatial planning for the future is the remit of the Planning and Affordable Housing Policy Service Unit. Its primary area of work is the Local Development Framework, a suite of documents setting out the spatial needs and developments of the District over the next 20 years. It establishes a policy framework for implementing the Council’s Community Plan Objectives and is used in the determination of planning applications.
